Make someone smile today: here are 8 ways to show you care
You don’t have to be wealthy; even small acts of kindness have the power to brighten a needy elder’s life. Here are some suggestions to get you started.
Make a cash donation
Your donation of any amount is gratefully received and really does make a difference. Every rand is put to good use to ensure older people get the care they need. Please use the form alongside, or click here, to make a donation by card, Zapper or EFT.
Donate gifts in kind
Donations of goods or services are always greatly appreciated. In particular, we are always in need of:
- Non-perishable foodstuffs
- Cleaning products
- Office supplies
- Bed and table linen
- Garden tools
Give your time
Whoever you are and however much time you have, we need you!
Our volunteers deliver meals, visit or phone elderly people, assist with games, shows and outings, and assist with admin and fundraising tasks.
Enjoy friendly camaraderie and the satisfaction of knowing you’re making a difference in the lives of our elders. For more information, please call our volunteer co-ordinator at 031 332-3721.
Get a MySchool Card
Make a difference, just by swiping your MySchool card when you shop at paticipating retailers like Woolworths, Loot.co.za, Engen Quick Shop and more. These participating stores donate a percentage of your spend to your chosen cause at absolutely no cost to you!
Get the free card or app today – and be sure to nominate TAFTA as the beneficiary. If you already have a card, you can add TAFTA as a secondary beneficiary.
Donate your birthday
What would you rather get for your birthday or anniversary? Another scented candle, scarf or soap-on-a-rope … or the joy of making a difference in the life of a needy pensioner?
If you’d like to ‘donate your birthday’ simply set up a page on Back-a-Buddy (with Tafta as the beneficiary) and ask friends and family to make a donation in lieu of buying you a gift.
Remember us in your Will
If you’ve enjoyed a comfortable life, surrounded by a loving family and friends, you may want to use your Will to help older people who are not as fortunate.
Leaving a bequest to Tafta is the easiest way to safeguard the future of Durban’s seniors, and keep your compassion and caring alive for years to come.

Support our charity shop
Although Tafta no longer has its own charity shop, we have partnered with Social Cause Agency to continue the sale of items donated to Tafta through their shared charity shop at 36 Bamboo Lane, Pinetown.
Visit the shop for bargains in old furniture, china and cutlery, jewellery, books, ornaments and bric a brac – as well as second hand clothing, shoes, kitchen appliances, etc.
If you have unwanted items in good condition to donate, please contact Neliswa Makhaza on 0313323721 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Or deliver items directly to the shop. Call Barbara on 082 306 1647 or email email@example.com.
Fundraise for us
Running a marathon? Entering a cycling or swimming race? Planning to climb a mountain or accept a skydiving dare? Why not use the opportunity to fundraise for Tafta?
Simply set up a fundraising page on Back-a-Buddy (with Tafta as the beneficiary) and ask friends and business colleagues to sponsor you every step, or kilometre, of the way. You don’t handle any of the money yourself – it goes directly to Tafta to help us continue providing vital services to Durban’s elders.
