Support our Winter Warmth Drive

With temperatures falling, Tafta is launching a Winter Warmth Drive to safeguard vulnerable elderly people, who face greater risk of coughs, colds, flu and other ailments in the colder months.

“Winter also brings an increased sense of isolation.” explains Tafta CEO Femada Shamam. “For elders who can barely afford increased utility bills, warm winter clothing and bedding, a plate of hot, nutritious food that helps fight common winter ailments such as the ‘flu, is considered a luxury.”

Tafta Kings Hall resident Rachel Chetty says, “I’ve seen how many of my friends have suffered during the cold winter season. It takes an older person a longer time to recover from illness and we don’t always have the money to pay for trips to the doctor. Please support this wonderful initiative to make older people feel cared for by the community in which they live and have contributed to.”

There are several ways the Durban community can get involved in Tafta’s Winter Warmth Drive. We’re appealing to all organisations – SME’s and large corporates – to help support our elderly pensioners. Please encourage staff to collect items of groceries, blankets, toiletries and incontinence products. Contact us if you are able to host a collection bin for donated items at your office, community or public space.

Individual members of the public are also urged to donate items  from the list below, which can be dropped off at any Tafta residence or we can arrange to collect from you.

Clicks La Lucia is one of the first retail outlets to support the Winter Warmth Drive; Store Manager Nikkita Finn said she called on La Lucia shoppers to pop by the Clicks branch in the mall to drop off their items in support of Tafta elders this winter.
