Reality of retirement

Although most of us hope to lead long lives, the paradox is that we don’t want to get old! But, barring an unforeseen accident or illness, growing older is unavoidable. There is, however, a huge difference between being active, healthy and financially well off in our golden years, as opposed to being frail, ill or immobile, and having to manage on a small pension.

Shocking new statistics reveal that only 6% of South Africans can afford to retire independently. 16% are totally reliant on the government old age grant, which at R1 500 per month is woefully inadequate.

This leaves organisations like Tafta reliant on caring members of the public and local businesses to meet the ever widening gap in providing services such as accommodation, frail care, assisted living and social services to elderly people.

We are tremendously grateful for our many caring and compassionate supporters who make it possible for Tafta to ‘stand in the gap’.

Thank you!
