Beauty queen and fitness enthusiast, Trisha Poona, has challenged fellow Durbanites to step into action in support of Tafta’s annual Trail Run.
The Mrs South Africa finalist urged runners and families to “get into shape” to tackle the undulating trail through Virginia Bush Nature Reserve on Sunday November1 9 in celebration of Tafta’s mission to inspire active ageing. Poona decided to support the event because of of her love and respect for the elderly and her passion for healthy living.
“We hosted a Christmas lunch every year for the elders at Tafta when I was a pupil at Northlands Girls High. It was such a joyful afternoon filled with eats, gifts and entertainment that we managed to put together.
“I loved being part of the festivities – especially watching the smiles on the faces of these wonderful people.”
She said motherhood helped her understand the effort and sacrifice involved in rearing a child.
“As you get older and your children move on, there is a void in your life and you become lonely. Festivities like these give the elders something to look forward to.”
All proceeds from the event will go towards providing a three course festive meal to Tafta elders. Please also consider bringing along a toiletry item which will be donated to needy pensioners as part of our Christmas campaign.
Participants can choose to compete in the 4km at a cost of R50 or 8km at a cost of R80 and can look forward to winning some very exciting prizes. These include a family weekend away in the South Coast sponsored by Platinum Destinations, other hotel accommodation vouchers from Tsogo Sun Hotels and the Riverside Hotel, and various gift hampers.
Pre-register at www.roag.co.za or www.wardevents.co.za. On-the-day registration begins promptly at 5:45am. The race is scheduled to begin at 7am from Virginia Preparatory School.
