Countdown to Gala Dinner

Radio personality Darren Maule promises to bring along his ‘A Game’ when he hosts The Association for the Aged’s 60th birthday Fundraising Gala Dinner at the Southern Sun Elangeni Hotel on 21 September 2018.

Maule, who is best known for his Never Ending Comedy Train and as the morning breakfast host at East Coast Radio, says he is excited at the prospect of hosting an event close to his heart.

“Tafta has played such an instrumental role over the years in caring for Durban’s elderly population. This 60th anniversary really warrants a celebration by Durbanites of an organisation that has played a role so many of us haven’t been able to”.

Also on the entertainment line-up for the evening is Durban born crooner, resident entertainer at the Oyster Box Hotel, and international artist Eric Canham, who describes the appeal of his music as relatable by both young and older audiences. Canham’s covers include Stevie Wonder, John Legend, Luther Vandross, Marvin Gaye, Eric Clapton, Seal and more.

With just two months to go before the gala dinner, be sure to secure your seat before tickets are sold out. “We’re promising an evening of glitz, glamour and endless entertainment and the proceeds will most contribute to making a difference to the lives of Tafta’ elders,” explained Tafta’s Divisional Manager: Income Development, and Public Relations, Gail Samuels.

The event will help fund the association’s nutritious meals programme which is responsible for feeding almost 800 needy elders both within Tafta homes and in surrounding Durban communities.

Tafta CEO Femada Shamam said: “Nutrition is vital to ensure the physical and emotional wellbeing of all elderly people. It improves the management of many acute and chronic conditions and delays the onset of many age-related illnesses. Elders, particularly those with inadequate dietary intake, are at risk of many diseases; including hypertension, diabetes, stroke and heart disease which are significantly expensive to manage and treat.”

We are calling on corporates to get involved as prize and cash sponsors of the event, and members of the public to purchase tickets at R550 per person or R5 500 per table of ten. The Night of Diamonds themed event includes a three-course dinner, an exclusive gift bag and an evening filled with entertainment.
