Loneliness hurts

By: | Tags:

So many elderly people know all too well how it feels to be lonely – especially those who have lost a beloved spouse or close family members. Others are no longer able to get out and about to visit friends or participate in social activities they used to enjoy. Persistent loneliness can lead to depression and turn the golden years into a burden rather than a time of peaceful contentment. But thanks to support from friends like you, Tafta is able to organise outings and run nine clubs and lifestyle […]

There are no words to adequately thank supporters like you for helping to make the festive season special for every one of our residents and service users. We hope these happy pictures go some way towards letting you know how grateful everyone was. Thanks to your outstanding generous support this year, we dished up no fewer than 1 800 lunches of roast lamb and chicken, veggies and Christmas pudding. Christmas cheer

Grateful thanks to everyone who is helping to make this festive season a memorable one for our City’s needy elderly folk. On Thursday 15 December, staff from Hollywood Bets visited Tafta to drop off items for our Cheer Box campaign. They also donated R 1560 towards the campaign. At the same time the Mulim group, Jaimathul Ullama, went to Amaoti Village to distribute much appreciated food hampers to the elderly residents. These are just two examples of your wonderful caring. We appreciate each and every donation … and every kind […]

Never too old to play

Everyone looks forward to celebrating Christmas with family and loved ones. But for many elderly people anxiously hoping for a glimpse of their kin, the wait stretches for days, and all too often the families never come. A huge thanks to Dave Ward events for the organisation and all the volunteers and folk from Riverside Trail for helping out on the day. To view […]

Tafta residents create garments for the Wearable Library

By: | Tags:

What if your dress, jacket, or cardigan could speak? What if they could tell you the stories they were privy to in the places they were made? What if you could ‘meet’ the people who made them? This is the thinking behind Shwe: The Wearable Library, which creates and markets garments that carry within their threads the stories and memories of woman in the city of Durban who create them. According to the website, “We live in a time when everything is disposable, and carries an almost weightless history, as […]

Come dressed in festive socks … the longer, louder and funkier the better! We want our event to be splashed with colour and fun to show our elderly that we not only care, but are pulling up our socks to make a difference in their lives! Participants are also encouraged to bring along a toiletry item for our Christmas Cheer Box campaign. Small toiletry items that we take for granted can be luxuries for those in need, so bring something to spoil an elderly person or take care of their […]
