As of yesterday evening, we now sadly report a total of 173 Covid-19 cases in Tafta homes since 15 June last year. Of these, we have sadly lost 21 elders and one staff member, and we remain grateful for the recovery of 94 elders and 42 staff. Once again, the good people of Durban responded in their hundreds to make sure our elders had a Christmas to remember. Thank you so much to everyone who sponsored a festive meal for men and women living in Tafta residences, or attending one of our wellness centres or clubs. In a recent survey to assess the impact of Covid-19 on retirement planning*, 66% of respondents stated that the lockdown had affected them financially. Sadly, we have begun the new year with a spate of new infections in our homes. The newer strain of the Coronavirus has taken hold fast, with the infection spreading at a rapid rate once it enters our homes. Since the start of the pandemic in South Africa, we have recorded a total of 144 Covid positive cases among elders and staff.
