Fire damaged room

Help pours in for fire victim

By: | Tags:

We extend our immense gratitude to generous Durbanites who came to the rescue of a Tafta John Conradie House resident whose television set spontaneously combusted on Thursday evening, causing a fire to break out in his room at around 9.30pm that evening. “We sent out the appeal on Friday, which coincidently was Valentine’s Day, and called on Durbanites to please help us restore the elder’s room and assist him with much needed clothing and flat contents including crockery, a table and television set,” said Tafta CEO Femada Shamam. Valentine's Day

Your best Valentine gift

By: | Tags: ,

Ahh, the month of love! Red roses, chocolate hearts, romantic candlelit dinners with your sweetheart. And perhaps the thrill of a card or flowers from a ‘secret admirer’. But it’s not so much fun for those who don’t have a special someone to shower them with love on Valentine’s Day. Spare a thought for lonely ‘singles’, who might go the whole day without a hug or some small token to remind them that someone is thinking about them. Sadly, this is all too often the case among older people. The […]

Thanks to your incredible generosity, we were able to replace all 55 mattresses in the unit – making sure our frail elders are comfortably supported. Best of […]

Don’t fall victim to ‘flu this winter

By: | Tags:

Influenza is a serious disease – responsible for between 6 000-11 000 deaths in South Africa every year. Children and the over 65s are particularly at risk; having weaker immune systems makes them more likely to develop serious complications like pneumonia, myocarditis (inflammation of the heart) and secondary bacterial infections. Protect yourself by getting a flu vaccination every year. Last year’s flu shot won’t be effective this year because every flu season is different. In South Africa, the best time to get vaccinated is before the end of April. While […]
