How to help
We appreciate any help you can give, whether in the form of a
financial donation (click here to donate online
by credit card),
gifts in kind, second-hand goods suitable for selling in our charity
shop or donations of time.
Gifts in kind
With more than 20 old age homes and service centres to maintain,
we are always in need of basic household items - from toiletries
and food through to paint, furnishings, bed linen, and towels.
If you have any items to donate, please contact us on tel. 031
332-3721 to arrange delivery or collection.
Second-hand goods
Household clearances, deceased estates and general second hand
goods are always accepted with gratitude. In particular, we need:
- Good clean clothing
- Furniture
- Towels and bed linen
- Glass and chinaware
- Ornaments, books and toy
- Jewellery, silverware & brass ware
- Clocks
- Leather gods
- Pot plants
- Bric-a-brac
Items donated to TAFTA are taken to the Squirrels Workshop in
Aliwal Street, where they are sorted and listed by volunteers.
Some
items (e.g. nightdresses, bedjackets, etc) are given to our Frail
Care Homes. Others, such as walking sticks, go to the Home Based Care
Department, while books, magazines and games are taken to our Service
Centres.
Other items, such as clothing, household goods, crockery and small
items of furniture, are issued to needy pensioners. Items that
are not suitable or not needed for any of these purposes are sold
at our charity shop.
Granny's Attic
If you're looking for second-hand bargains, be sure to visit our
charity shop, Granny's Attic, situated at street
level at Kings Hall in Aliwal Street. It's a treasure trove of household
smalls, bric-a-brac, books, artwork, clothing and furniture - all
at very reasonable prices!
What's more, when you shop at Granny's Attic, you're also helping
to care for needy pensioners, because proceeds from the shop help
provide items not usually donated, such as hotplates, blankets
and underwear. The money also helps provide nourishing meals and
medication for needy pensioners.
