Index forecasts a lower pension when you retire

The average retirement fund member in their 40s or 50s may retire with only half to two-thirds of the pension they expect, as returns on retirement savings are expected to be lower in future. Retirement tax reforms postponed

The proposed increased tax benefits for retirement fund contributions have been put on hold for at least a year. As a result, transfers from pension to provident funds will continue to be taxed. Provident fund members are also required to buy an annuity on retirement, which may disqualify them from receiving the old age grant.

Our grateful thanks go to the Robin Hood Foundation and their Bless a Granny and Grandpa initiative, which has seen bands of volunteers visit our Homes with gifts galore and teatime treats for the elderly residents. Zimmer frames and wheelchairs were the order of the day when pensioners took to the streets for their own ‘Big Walk’. Everyone enjoyed being out in the fresh air and sunshine, and there was ice cream all round afterwards.

Oldies enjoy train trip

37 seniors from TAFTA on Ridge and The Outspan, together with staff, enjoyed a train trip from Durban Central Station to Scottburgh. Many had not been on a train in years! Residents enjoyed a light lunch and a good taste of sea air before returning home.
