National Care Home Open Day: Friday 17 June

On Friday 17 June we welcomed members of the public, local business owners and friends and family members of our residents to our various homes. John Conradie House and John Dunn House were the most popular, each attracting about 30 visitors. Visitors were taken on tours of the facilities and given information about the various TAFTA services available. Afterwards they enjoyed a cup of tea and cake. It was wonderful to see so many people taking an interest in the options available to seniors living on a limited budget.

Elder Abuse Awareness Day

On Tuesday 14 June 2016, the streets of Durban were filled with the chants of our residents in support of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. They carried placards during the march from the Durban City Hall along Anton Lembede Street, Joe Slovo Street, Dr Pixley Kaseme Street and back to City Hall Park to take a stand for those who can not. End to unauthorised grant deductions a sign of relief for the elderly

The recent press release by the Minister of Social Development is a ray of sunshine after many many months of frustration, heartache and disappointment experienced by pensioners who have had money illegally deducted from their pensions. The Minister announced the publication of the revised Regulations to the Social Assistance Act.
